Following the success of The Ocean Race Atlantic, the 16th edition of the Défi Azimut Lorient-Agglomération will bring together 17th IMOCA skippers in Lorient. With new boats, former competitors, and races around Groix, the competition promises to be particularly intense.

A flurry of leadership changes and a nail-biting finish, two new, latest-generation IMOCA boats in the mix and veterans who refuse to give up, a truly impressive winner… The Ocean Race Atlantic had the entire IMOCA community on the edge of their seats in early September. The welcome extended to the six crews at Lorient La Base will be remembered for years to come and confirms that the heart of Sailing Valley beats strongly to the rhythm of these major ocean racing events.

Between New York and Lorient, the anticipated generational clash between DMG Mori Global One and Team Malizia on one side, and United by The Ocean, 11th Hour Racing, Embrace The Challenge, and MSIG Europe on the other, certainly took place and already promises more exciting races to come.

Next up on the list? It’s taking place in Lorient, of course, and kicks off on Tuesday, September 15.
With 15 confirmed entries and a few last-minute surprises, the 16th Défi Azimut Lorient Agglomération promises to be a spectacular event to kick off the season. On Wednesday, the waters off Groix will transform into a nautical stadium for the Runs, the first event of this three-part challenge. Riding the momentum from their races between New York and Lorient, several IMOCAs will join the festivities. This includes Kojiro Shiraishi (DMG Mori Global One), who will be challenging the clock, and there are also rumors that the winner of the TOR, Paul Meilhat (United by the Ocean), might jump on board… Let the party continue!
