30 years of age, Guirec has already gained a solid experience of the sea and remarkable renown in the maritime and sports adventure world. At the age of 21, the young Breton undertook a 5-year round-the-world voyage under sail, via the 2 poles, during which he spent 130 days wintering in the Greenland ice without assistance, without communication and living entirely self-sufficiently.
He then spent several years sailing the different seas of the globe and became the youngest sailor in the world to sail the Northwest Passage, before reaching Cape Horn and the South Pole. In 2021, he took on a new challenge: a double transatlantic passage rowing singlehanded from East to West, then from West to East, again without assistance. In total, Guirec has spent more than 670 days (virtually) alone at sea during his oceanic voyages.
In 2022, Guirec is starting an ambitious new adventure: to participate in the most prestigious and mediatised ocean race in the world. He’ll do so with his IMOCA (9th in the last Vendée Globe when skippered by Benjamin Dutreux), which will bear the name and colours of Freelance.com, during competitions such as this year’s Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe, the Transat Jacques Vabre in 2023 and The Transat CIC in 2024, the main goal being the Everest of the seas: the next Vendée Globe in 2024/25.
To pull this off, Guirec Soudée has put together an experienced team, including Sébastien Audigane as boat captain, who began his mission by preparing Freelance.com in Port-Bourgenay at Eole Performance, Benjamin Dutreux's structure. After the Guyader Bermuda 1000 Race in May, the team made the move to Kairos Sailing Team, the structure belonging to the highly experienced Roland Jourdain in Concarneau in Finistère, Brittany.
